Jesus Fucking Christ "Life's Hateful Seed" Video

So this is the video that is included with the CD version (they still haven't invented a way to add video to vinyl...) of Jesus Fucking Christ's 2nd album, Life's Hateful Seed. In fact it is the title track. So if you want to check it out, here it is. It is kind of goofy but fun with nods to some old horror movies as well.

For those who don't know, JFC is Dave Ed from Neurosis, Larry from The Rickets, and JAmie from Pitch Black. They play old school hardcore kind of like Poison Idea or the Accused. Or you can just watch and listen to the video and figure that out.

It also has Marcus da Anarchist, creator of the Pyrate Punx in a guest role as Satan. For a higher resolution version you can order the CD from me at www.inimical.com and the vinyl is still available as well. So that is that, enjoy.

Funerot "Nova II" LP

This one was a split with Ami Lawless's Selfish Satan Records. They have recorded a new LP called "And Then You Fucking Die, Man" I am told it is kind of a concept record, the concept it the record's title. So there you go, the future.

Now the past. This record was originally going to be a 7" that Ami would release and a split 7" with Splatterhouse that I would release. Funerot called me up to see if I would be into just combining the projects, 12"s do much better than 7"s so of course I would. And Ami is awesome so I was very happy to get to work with her in some regard. So that is how that got put together. But that isn't very exciting. I like telling funny stories.

The story of how we met is one such story. It was at the first Goregon Fest that Jason V put on. There is video of Funerot on YouTube somewhere from that show. Anyway, I was drunk as hell and decided I had already stayed up too long to get a good night's sleep so I would just pull it out and go until the next day. I somehow ended up in Jason and Tim (aldebaran, see previous post)'s hot tub. They had just got back from tour and it hadn't been cleaned in a while and dirty things had happened in it. No matter, I just needed to relax. So in I went. I tried to rally the troops, Spring Break! was not up for it, despite their partying ways, Poser Disposer too. A lot of bands just looked at me with disgust. Funerot were the only one's to step it up and get in the tub. And a bond was formed.

In fact we would get in a pool together later that summer at my mother's house, where my mother wanted nothing more than to just touch Max's hair. A rather awkward experience.

And now back to Nova II. It was mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound. Reuben did the artwork on this, and all the rest of the Funerot records. This will never see a CD release, due to Funerot's (and now my) anti-CD views. So why don't you have a copy for free. And get stoked for the new record. It rips.

Aldebaran/ Sod Hauler Split LP

The first release I put out was the 4 song CD for Sod Hauler. It did alright. We went on a 10 day tour, played with Yob, and I made a bunch of connections for distribution. But the record still only did alright. Right after the first tour, Aaron left the band to move back to SD with his wife. It took a long time to find Aaron's replacement in Adam. He was more into the funeral doom, whereas Mark and Josh had more love for the Sleep/ Yob stoner sound. But it was a great match. His influence would be shown more prominently on Sod Hauler's 2006 demo, before he left the band.

This LP to me represents a very focussed time for them. From the straight up metal of Krom, to the speedy stoner rock of Mean 18 to the mid paced blackend death of Dragon's Blood. The additional guitar work on that final song was a studio addition by Adam. Otherwise the song had been in place since the first tour. It was always a favorite of mine. It was recorded at Ironwood Studios and mixed at Milk Studios I believe.

We toured that before it was released, first meeting up with Aldebaran in Portland, then playing with Abomidable Iron Sloth in Chico and hooking up with Graves at Sea for a handful of shows before finishing up with a show with Yob in Eugene. You could not have asked for a better tour.

I met Aldebaran through Splatterhouse, who I had released an LP for previously. Tim from Splatterhouse/ Parasitic Records had started this band, and they played their first show with Sod Hauler on a one off trip to Portland. I then brought them up to play a one off show here in Seattle at 2nd Ave. Pizza. So putting this LP together made sense.

They recorded with Mike Lastra at Smegma Studios in Portland, the studio where some of my favorite NW record were recorded. They presented me with a 17 minute track of black sludge. It was amazing. We then got Jason V from Fall of the Bastards/ Splatterhouse/ Abandon etc. etc. to do the album art. He worked on it during the final Bastards tour and somewhere along the line lost it. So what you see is actually the second draft.

Once again, this was mastered at RFI. And I think it is a great record.

Bonus: Here is a demo version of Sod hauler's self titled song. I recorded it at the Art Institute as my final project. It is pretty rough in places and much longer than the final version that made it to the CD. It is great, basically two songs about two topics that work very well together. And if anyone doubted that their blackend doom tendancies were not there from the beginning, there is an unfinished song called 7 Years sitting on a two inch real in my closet. It has both falsetto and black metal type vocals. It was very interesting. I wish we had finished it.

Procession Of Vultures EP

So this is IR002. It isn't the second record I put out but neither is the Whorehouse record my first. I had two records planned that ended up falling through* but this record was recorded by me when I was still in college at the Art Institute of Seattle. I majored in Audio Production and was able to book studio time in 4 hour blocks. I booked one session for basic tracking in the medium sized room, one in the small studio for overdubs and then mixed in another room.

I originally contacted Joey Maas about recording State of the Union, but they had recently broken up. He was now playing in Wormwood but had started this project with another member of Wormwood, Brandon Fitzsimmons, on guitar. Rounding out the band was future Skarp and Snuggle bass player Andy Kress and Dirty Alan from a Kansas band Derailer on second drum kit.

I don't recall if I knew they had two drummers when I booked them, but that is what showed up. I was told that was one of the loudest sessions they ever did at AIS, at least until I recorded Sod Hauler 6 months later. Basic tracking went pretty smoothly, mostly just stopping for timing issues between the drummers. I didn't know what I was doing with the vocals and ended up smashing them with compression, to the point of distortion. They sound awesome to me. The second session was mostly recording a second guitar track that mostly consisted of feedback, and Brandon's vocals. He forgot to take off his braclets and they can be heard a bit in the final scream out of Black, White and Red All Over.

The first mix was not used. Years later, I got the idea of releasing this for my own amusement. They were all down, making sure I knew that there would be little promotion for it. No matter, I just wanted to see something I recorded on vinyl. Joey really wanted to handle the artwork, so he did. He also said he had a guy to print the covers, he failed to mention they would not be cut or folded. Just giant sheets of heavy cardboard. Each cover hurts like hell to fold. I think it looks like one of those post meatl records like ISIS or NEUROSIS or something.

Brandon and I dumped the 2" real into protools and remixed it over a lot of beers at the Wormwood House (I don't know what he calls the place). We then got it mastered at RFI in Seattle, that is where all the early Death Cab and Pearl Jam records get mastered. This doesn't sound like that.

So that is the story of the record. They played maybe three shows in Seattle in 2000 or 2001. The 7" is still available through me, http://www.inimical.com/ , but check it out for free. I hope you like it.
